Key Problem 🔑

💡 How might we empower smokers to quit in a manageable, personalized way to improve their health and quality of life?

💡 How might we empower smokers to quit in a manageable, personalized way to improve their health and quality of life?

Why we chose to address this problem:

Smoking cessation tools often lack personalization and cultural relevance, especially in regions like Indonesia. By understanding the local context and common challenges smokers face, we aimed to create a practical and accessible solution that bridges the gap between intention and action.

Brainstorming 🧠

Through interviews with multiple participants, we identified recurring patterns that highlight key factors preventing people from successfully quitting smoking.

Our research revealed that smoking behavior is primarily triggered by emotional states and environmental factors. Smoking has significant negative impacts on both smokers (affecting their health and finances) and those around them (through secondhand smoke). We identified three levels of smoking addiction:

  1. light (1-5 cigarettes daily)

  2. moderate (6-16 cigarettes)

  3. heavy (more than 16 cigarettes).

Research shows that 5mg is the maximum daily nicotine intake before addiction risk increases significantly. Several proven methods exist for quitting smoking, including Gradual Reduction, Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), and Cold Turkey. However, quitting attempts often fail due to physical, psychological, and social factors. A person is considered to have successfully quit smoking after maintaining zero nicotine consumption for at least 3 months.

User Story Map 🗺️

SeBAD helps smokers gradually quit by reducing nicotine intake over time. Our user story map outlines the journey from initial awareness to achieving a smoke-free life, covering key steps like motivation tracking, personalized reduction plans, and community support.

This User Story Map is used to define the main flow and activities that users will perform in the SeBAD application. This document helps us understand how users interact with the app from start to finish, ensuring a more structured and user-focused experience.

We begin by identifying the main flow, which consists of a series of core activities performed by users. After that, we break down each step by defining the data or features that will be entered or used at each stage of the interaction. This approach ensures that every feature supports the user's primary goal of gradually reducing nicotine consumption.

Next, we determine what data will be displayed to users at each stage. This helps us structure relevant and easily accessible information, enabling users to quickly understand their progress in their journey to quit smoking.

We also establish an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) label for the most priority features. By defining the MVP, we can focus on the most impactful features and ensure that development progresses efficiently without overlooking essential user needs.

With this User Story Map, we can prioritize tasks, structure a logical application flow, and conduct a more in-depth system analysis. This document also helps the team align their vision and ensures that every developed feature provides clear value to the users.

Home Page 🏠

  • Before -> the color is too dark and some user find it too intimidating

After -> We change the color palette lighter and more playful. We find that the color theory that we used can motivate users more.

  • Before -> users suggest to highlight the cigarettes limit left

After -> we highlight the cigarettes left replacing the days to smoke-free

Log Cigarettes 🚬

  • Before -> after testing, user felt that in any condition they have to log yesterday cigarettes when they forgot.

After -> We add day option in the log cigarette page

  • Before -> users don’t find it emergency when the smoking limit will surpass the daily limit.

After -> We add visual cue such as warning icon and color changing when the user’s limit will surpass the daily limit.
